Architecture and living spaces

A contemporary house, open to the ocean

The architecture follows the slope of the land: the house steps down the cliff, between the upper malecón and the beach. It keeps the spirit of a beach house, with open spaces, large picture windows and plenty of natural light; from the main living areas, the view extends to the ocean.

On the main level, the sitting and dining areas form a single space, continued by an integrated kitchen. The main suite, with its private bathroom, opens directly onto the large terrace, where the pool faces the ocean. A timber deck runs along it, and a stone wall carries a large ceramic mural.

Playa El Silencio, on Lima's southern coast

The house is at Playa El Silencio, in the district of Punta Hermosa, one of the 43 districts of the province of Lima. Facing the Pacific Ocean, it sits on the natural contours of the cliff. Punta Hermosa was one of the first beach resorts on the southern coast and is still known to surfers for its many surf spots.

Two independent entrances serve it: at the top, the upper malecón, where the parking for cars and quad bikes is; at the bottom, from the beach, staircase no. 4.

This is nothing like an apartment in Miraflores, San Isidro or Barranco: here, a detached house by the sea, in a beach town whose pace follows the seasons. On the coast, the warmest and sunniest months run from December to April (climate and seasons in Peru).
